The Games | Mario Game Archive | Prologue

Leave the toad’s home and go talk to everyone. I’d wait on talking to the guy by the gate and instead entering the house and talking to those people first. There’s nothing to the field to the left (where you fell), so you don’t have to go there. When you’re done, talk to the fenceman.

I wonder why Kammy didn’t just put it on you? Oh well, I’m not complaining. But couldn’t Mario just climb over the fence? Anyway, go visit Goompa. When you do, you’ll fall down and land next to the veranda thingymabob. Approach Goompa and he’ll tell you what to do. Go exit to the left where you’ll have to search through a bunch of bushes. The hammer is in the far left. I’d recommend going through every bush to get coins. When you have the hammer, hit small blocks on the ground (one gives you a bunch of coins), hit the big block if you want, hit all the trees with the hammer, SAVE, and then leave. Or try to. You’ll be forced to fight Jr. Troopa

When you beat him, you get “Star Points,” these are pretty much EXP. 100=New Level.

Now head right after he tells you he’ll return. Hit some small blocks, the tree, and the large block. Then go up the spring and get a fire flower and coins. There’s a bush there too which you may as well search. Heal and then head right. Here you’ll meet normal enemies. I’d recommend beating as many as you can. After all, Star Points=Levels. There is also a star piece here. Go right and you’ll end up at the village. After some talking, Goombario joins you! Your first party member! Heal at the toad’s place. SAVE the game. Talk to people if you want, and then leave!

At the new place, there is a sign with a goomba on it. If you read it, a goomba will come out of the sign. Make with that info what you will. Just keep going and going. If you are afraid of death, use a mushroom if you have one or retreat. There will be a mushroom sign which is like the goomba sign you saw at the beginning. If you can make it past that spot, there is immediately a healing block. Use that and keep going.

You’ll find a new boss. Well, two I guess. I recommend equipping both badges you should have now. Neither should pose that big of a threat. I’d use power jump to beat one of them really quickly and have Goombario just attack normally. These two aren’t that dangerous if you have badges equipped.

Heal at the previous health block and SAVE. Then continue.

There is a mushroom sign. It’s actually a goomba in disguise. Keep heading down the path and you’ll reach the boss.

It’s King Goomba and the two Goomba Bros. This could be challenging if you aren’t ready for it. The Goomba Bros. are pretty much normal Goombas now since they have only two health. As Goombario suggests, beating them first is a good idea. However, does the scenery look rather nice? Nicer than normal? It should. Note that tree patch. Attack it! This beats the Goomba Bros. and leaves the Goomba King at 7 life! Hooray! Once you do that, it’ll be a lot easier. Just use power jumps and have Goombario jump on him. When you defeat them, they run away. Now what? Maybe you should eavesdrop. When you do, you’ll find out where a switch is. Find it and hit it.

Cross the bridge. Go around the fence and hit the blocks. You’ll get a supershroom. Then just leave.

Hit the item box nearby and get a Sleepy Sheep, keep heading Eastwards to Toad Town.

Welcome to Toad Town. There are quite a few things here. First, you may as well visit Luigi through the pipe. There’s not much to do, except see this for later… and feel bad for Luigi. Head out and enter the house nearby. Talk to the guy if you want some random facts. They can be rather helpful in giving directions or backstory. Across from that house is a house with a family of kids and their mom. They’ll just complain, so if you want to hear it, go ahead. Next, you may want to head to the shop to buy some good items. You may not want to though. If you like having backup healers though, it would be a good idea. Talk to random people on the road if you want. They’ll be talking about how scared they are. Head east.

You may as well visit the post office and read your mail as well as heal and SAVE if you must. There are blockades both south and east, so go south after you talk around.

Here you are on a long road where the castle was. Follow it as you talk and look around. Eventually, you’ll reach a fork in the road. Up is more plotty. Down is not. Down is a house. On one floor is a chest (you’ll like this chest later on) and a Mervulee. She tells you where are badges, star pieces, and power blocks… for a price in coins. Upstairs is Merlow. He trades you badges for those star pieces you’ve collected. When you’re done, take the upper path.

Climb up the long pillar of ground and when you reach the top. Now for a bunch of plot.

Head west to Toad Town.

You’ll learn action commands and face a Magikoopa. If you use what you just learned (actually, even if you don’t), it’ll be an easy win. Head back to Toad Town and you are told to talk to Merlon. Keep pressing A until he opens the door. He’ll blabber on and tell you to go east. You know you can’t, but humor him. Oh no! The toads are still there! Go and talk to Merlin. He’ll reveal their identities and you are told to go east. Heal and SAVE before you go.
